1-23

well the new year hit with a bang. it snowed like crazy then snowed some more. I finally got tired of using crappy shovels and went out and bought a snow shovel. the universe being what it is decided that was enough snow and it started raining. we got a lot of rain on top of a lot of snow and life started to suck. when I got home from work on 1-7-09 Jerry let me know that his daughter Jen and their Foster daughter were on there way to the house because the ski slope they lived next to had slid and took out a few houses and they were evacuating the pass. after 2 days and over 13 inches of rain the river rose and rose and crested its banks at our house about 12:30am on 1-8-09. we were awake cause Brian, Jen husband had just arrived and we were moving cars to get them out of the water. this would be the second time we had moved them already. at this point I had had about an hours sleep. I asked the boys to help me get my bed off the floor just in case the water did end up in the house. we jammed some 4x4s under the bed and were assured that would do it cause the water wasn't going to get high enough to get the bed wet. Jer and I were walking around watching the water rise. I kept asking if we should leave or at least get our stuff to higher ground. the important stuff like the computers. I was assured that the water shouldn't get any higher and this was a normal thing and not to worry. I continued to walk around and worry.

by about 2:30 am the water was coming into our house. we were told again that this was probably the worst we would see and the water wouldn't get any higher and we should go back to bed and try to get some sleep. Id been in and out of Travis's house waking them asking them for things like their car keys to move vehicles. the last time I went in was to tell them to unplug things in their room cause there was water coming in their place and we were smelling gas pretty strongly outside. Trav got pissed at that point at me for continuing to bother him wile he was sleeping. he got up and came out side and was shocked that yeah I wasn't just freaking out and over reacting like everyone thought I was. Trav was asked to move his car one again cause it was getting water in it. we were outside when Trav was wading back through the driveway after moving his car. the water was wast deep on him and he was not thrilled to be wading through freezing water to say the least. he was saying plenty but none of its fit to repeat.

after being told yet again that thing were at there worst and to try to get some sleep we relented at 4 am we grabbed our blankets and booted Sydny out of her bed, witch is in trav's place upstairs. Trav and Syd hoped in his bed downstairs and we all tried to get some sleep. I think everyone but me actually got some sleep. at 7am Shel wakes us up because Jerry (our landlord)has turned the power off. Jer and I are out of bed and down stairs when we hear Trav loudly cussing the fact that he got out of bed into knee deep freezing water. yeah that's a rude wake up if I ever heard of one. Shel wants to get out. she refused to deal with water in the house no working bathrooms and no power. sounds like a plan to me. there is a bit of waking up happening still and much stumbling around and talking. at around 9 or 10am Jer gets a call on his cell from a recruiter from Microsoft to come in in a couple hours for job interviews. its laughable really. we are on the upstairs balcony at travs trapped by waist deep water and Jer gets called to interview for a job. the recruiter is nice enough to change the interview to the next day so Jer can make it.

once it was decided we are leaving I head outside to figure out what the deal is on leaving. I make it about 6 ft past the garage and I'm wast deep and having a hard time walking due to the rivers current plowing through the drive way. I make it over to Jerry and his son in law who are both in hip waders watching the mess of a river roar through the property. I ask Jerry if its OK for me to get one of the boats to get Sudny and the dogs out to dryer land. there was no way I was going to ask my kid to wade through the sewer water. Jerry thought it was a brilliant plan and off they went to pull one of the boats for us. Jer, Syd and I walked out the front door got in the boat and Jerry and Brian (Jerry's son in law) walked us to dryer land pulling the boat between them. Brian said if we walked out to the trestle we would be picked up by his parents and taken to there house. he also offered us his business to stay in got a wile. I told him to go tell trav and shel who were back at the house still discussing the pros and cons of a hotel over someones house. the offer of Brians business which is a house, bed, bath and kitchen included got em in the boat and to us where we were waiting down the street for them. we all started up the street to the trails leading out.

the roads were blocked in multiple sections due to the flooding. a neighbor down the street, the same neighbor who earlier had used his truck to pull our vehicles out of the water, offered to take us the mile or so up the trails to the trestle where we would be met by Brians parents. the ride on the neighbors ATV was fun and so much better than walking in the to tight wet boots I had on. Brians dad picked us up and we went to his house for showers and breakfast. then he took us to brians business where Trav and Shel would be staying till they could clean up and get back in to their house. Brian and Jen also lent them one of the company cars so they would have a way to get around. we spent a few hours there took a nap and had some food then Jer and I were picked up by his boss to come here, where we still are. Jer's boss has been so great giving us a room and getting Jer to work everyday. my boss wasn't so nice, but I totally understand. without a car to get me to work and being pretty far away I had no way to get there and lost my job. yeah I could have gone and stayed with someone I worked with but at this point I need to be with my family.

our cars were covered by insurance and got picked up Tuesday after the flooding had gone down and the roads were clear again. after being unsure and going back and forth on if my car was going to be savable it was totaled out. so freaking sad I loved that car. I went on Wednesday to get my stuff out of me car and it was a freaking mess. there was so much condensation in it there was water running off of just about every surface. and the smell, OMG, I have smelled things this month that will haunt me the rest of my life.we got Jer's car back on the 21st. they had had it for a week and a half and there was nothing wrong with it. not having a car blows chunks. Jer's car was not returned in great condition however. the full tank of gas that was there before the flood was gone. a good 80 miles had been clocked in it and someone had jacked with all the setting in the car. super lame but tolerable. I took the car out yesterday looking for a new job and noticed bright orange pain on the passenger seat. super duper. we lost our car for a week. someone took it for a joyride, did a 'detail' job a 3 year old would have done better and got orange pain on the seat. I called the insurance company and let them know. they called Jer back and told him they couldn't be held responsible for damages done to the car wile it was in there custody. WTF? cant be held responsible? Im still wondering when the suckage is going to stop. its been one hell of a ride this month. we lost almost everything. are down to one car. I cant replace my car till Ive have had a job again for a wile and we are currently homeless. Jer will be out of work on Monday... they didn't hire him at Microsoft. now I wonder why his interviews didn't go well? maybe it was the 5 hrs of sleep in the 2 days prior or the hypothermia or the ingestion of a vile stew of nasty water. I guess it was to much to ask for a little understanding on the situation.

good news, I found a job today at the Ace Hardware down the street. its only a mile and a half down the road so I can walk to work everyday. its only part time right now but they will be able to get me more hours once the garden center opens up. hehe all that walmart experience is coming in handy. the pay isnt bad and after the 3 months trial will be about the same I was making at the pet store. Jer's boss says we can stay here for a wile till we can get into a place. getting me a car is first though so I can not loose another job.

I'm still pretty tired and I'm stressed. the new year hasn't brought good things so far. this weekend we are going to see if the computers survived. we gave them quite a wile to be sure they were all dry. the condensation was mostly the issue with them. I would love to get down to see trav and shel and the kid. other than that I refuse to be productive this weekend. we spent the last 2 weekends getting our stuff that was left out of the old house. its in some boxes and a garbage bag or 2 in the garage at Jer's bosses place. most of its computer stuff. I'm hoping that the computers still work. life is gonna blow having to replace them if they are broken.

I need a nap. Ill try to keep things posted. if I don't get to it real soon its cause I'm shoulder deep in poo trying to wade through.
